Chuck Posts Statements on Vote-GA.org

These are the answers I gave to the VOTE-GA.org website.  You can compare my answers there to the answers given by Isakson and Thurmond.

– General: (political statement of goals, objectives, views, philosophies)?
America sits on a ticking time bomb of debt and misguided ideas of what government is.  I want to work to substantially reduce America’s debt and future financial obligations, and to restore the Founders vision of a limited government that works only to ensure the natural rights we recognize in our Declaration of Independence.

We, the People need to understand that government is not a source of charity, business, or education.  Government is a badge, a gun, and a jail.  It is the negation of liberty.  We must understand that needs are best fulfilled by individuals, either on their own or with the voluntary cooperation of other individuals.

I believe that:
–    Theft of another’s property or production by any means for any reason is wrong.
–    Respect for Private Property and Contracts are the basis of civilization.
–    No right exists to initiate force against another human being for any reason, under any circumstances, by any means.  You may defend yourself and do so by violent means if necessary, but specifically for defense.
–    Big government is the problem, not the solution.
–    If you think something is expensive now, wait until the government makes it free.

Government should be limited to:
–    Defending private property and contracts
–    Honest money
–    A system of natural rights and common law
–    Punishing illegitimate force
–    Punishing fraud

I will work for:
–    Smaller limited government
–    Sound Money
–    Reduced National Debt
–    No Bailouts
–    Educational Choice
–    Non-Interventionist Foreign Policy
–    Principals and People over Party and Politics
–    National Security without endangering Civil Liberties
–    Maintaining the Right to Bear Arms as an individual right of self-defense
–    A justice system that focuses on violet crime instead of victimless crime

My five point test for government programs
1.    Is it Constitutional?
2.    Does it violate Natural Rights – Life, Liberty, Property?
3.    Is it affordable?
4.    Is it logical?
5.    What will be all of the long-term effects?

ISSUES STATEMENTS POSTED

– Why You Are Running for Office?
America sits on a ticking time bomb of debt and misguided ideas of what government is. I want to work to substantially reduce America’s debt and future financial obligations, and to restore the Founders vision of a limited government that works only to ensure the natural rights we recognize in our Declaration of Independence.

150 years of near monopoly control by the Democrats and Republicans has left us with failing schools, shaky infrastructure, a budget that is a disaster, troops scattered around the world, and no jobs. We continue to swap Democrats for Republicans, back and forth with no effect except to make the problems worse. Taxpayers have been burdened with promises that cannot possibly be kept and bills that cannot possibly be paid. If we don’t vote differently this time, it won’t turn out different this time.

An approach that focuses on principles over politics is what is needed. I believe the Libertarian Party represents the best in American business, educational, social, and international ideals. I want to push forward a better idea for government, one that more closely aligns with Madisonian principles of limited government meant only to ensure natural rights.

– What You Want To Achieve if Elected?
I want to begin by getting Federal spending under control, addressing the huge entitlement bill that is soon come due, and to take away the blank check that the Federal government has written on the backs of taxpayers through the Federal Reserve Bank.

Right now, there are no economists who know how the promises made in Social Security and Medicare can be paid. The system right now is unsustainable. Without substantial changes to those two programs in addition to significant cuts in overall government spending, America faces a fiscal disaster of unimaginable proportions.

There is no painless way out. It is long past time we forced fiscal discipline on the Federal government. Clearly, as demonstrated by their records, the Democratic and Republican Parties have no intention of doing so.

– The First Thing to Accomplish When Elected?
Make Congress take a substantial pay and benefit cut! As a young Marine officer, I learned that leaders have to lead from the front. If fiscal cuts must be made, the leadership has to take those cuts first. There should also be no automatic pay raises. Congress should have no benefit package the general citizenry does not have. Furthermore, I have promised to no take the Congressional pension until it is substantially reduced below its current amount. Congressional pensions should not be more than pensions the average non-governmental American accrues during the same length of service.

– Areas You Would Most Concentrate On?
1.    Sound Money
2.    Spending reductions, both mandatory and discretionary, and including defense
3.    Future entitlements
4.    Elimination of unconstitutional departments and laws

– Entering Public Service?
Entering public service is an honor and a duty. It would be an honor to be recognized by the citizens of Georgia and to be asked to represent them and our Constitution. It is a duty to stay strictly within the limits of representing the people of Georgia and strictly within the law of the Constitution. I will not compromise on either.
